New Astrobiology Group Launched at the University of Tartu

A new astrobiology group has been established at the University of Tartu, bringing together researchers from various disciplines to advance the field in Estonia. The group focuses on interdisciplinary collaboration and promoting astrobiology research within the country.

Astrobiology is the study of the origin, evolution, and potential for life beyond Earth, combining insights from astronomy, geology, biology, chemistry, and so on.

So far, two meetings have taken place in January and March, covering topics such as an introduction to the European Astrobiology Institute (EAI) and joining the European Astrobiology Network Association (EANA). The next meeting is planned for the beginning of May. Current participants include geologists, philosophers, and space scientists, all involved with astrobiology in some way.

The establishment of this group marks an essential step in strengthening astrobiology research and cooperation between scientists within the University of Tartu. The initiative was launched by a member of the EXOHOST project, PhD student Alexandra Lehtmets.
